Major Willie Davenport joined the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority Police Department in 1995. During his tenure, he has served as a Patrol Officer, Special Operations Officer, Bomb Technician, Sergeant, and Lieutenant. He also served as the Canine Supervisor, Bomb Assessment Team Commander, and Clayton
County Precinct Commander.
In 2017, Major Davenport was promoted to the rank of Major. He served as commander for South, East and North Precincts before his current assignment as Commander of Special Operations. His areas of responsibility include Special Operations Response Team, K-9/EOD, Bomb Assessment
Team and the Criminal Investigations Unit.
Major Davenport has earned several certifications including Special Weapons and Tactics, EOD, General Instructor and Taser Instructor, NIMS, and Supervision and Management Certifications.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice from Saint Leo University and a Master of Science degree in Administration from Central Michigan University. He completed Senior Management Institute for Police (SMIP) course through the Police Executive Research Forum in 2020. He is a member of Atlanta Metropol, Georgia
Association of Chiefs of Police and DeKalb County Chief’s Association.
The Special Operations Response Team (SORT) is a highly trained unit that can respond to incidents requiring tactical expertise, counter-terrorism and they provide surveillance capabilities. They are also able to respond to chemical and biological situations. They are augmented around the system with our Tactical Field
Operators (TFOs).
