MARTA is committed to provide the most technologically advanced train control system available in the transit industry. Despite budget constraints, we are making safety critical infrastructure improvements a priority. The train control improvements will not only be robust, but it is designed to be sustainable for future needs. Our partner in this project is Alstom Signaling Inc., a global leader in transit technology and innovation. Together, we will completely overhaul our automated train control and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) computer systems.
"This project is a demonstration of our commitment to move forward with the next generation of automated train control and safety systems. It also positions MARTA to broaden its reach in terms of creating an integrated transit network that will have the capacity to serve the entire Atlanta region."
Beverly A. Scott, Ph.D. General Manager/CEO
While MARTA is still in a state of good repair, our systems are becoming increasingly difficult to upgrade and maintain because of equipment and software obsolescence. Down time has increasingly impacted operations and service to our patrons.
The new system will be a single integrated platform that will direct all train movements, control third rail power, enable better monitoring and communications, and allow for faster response times.
