
CIU (Criminal Investigations Unit)
The MARTA Police Criminal Investigations Unit (C.I.U.) is the detective and investigatory arm for the Department. This unit serves to review all criminal activity reports from the system and assigns cases to its
Detectives based on solvability factors. This unit also coordinates with all of our fellow
jurisdictions detective units, and serves as court liaison for obtaining warrants.
This unit is responsible for:
- the processing of all major crime scenes;
- responding to and investigating all violent crimes;
- assisting with victim and witness interviews;
- conducting investigations of white collar and internal crimes;
- interacting with the medical examiners offices;
- preparing and distributing BOLOs;
- preparing complicated cases for court presentation;
- and attending many local crime information network meetings to share and gather criminal information from our surrounding fellow police agencies.
