Chief Wanda Y. Dunham has been with the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) Police Department for over twenty-two years, holding many positions of command responsibility. She was appointed as Chief of Police and promoted to Assistant General Manager on May 14, 2006. Chief Dunham earned a BS degree in Criminal Justice from Jacksonville State University. She graduated with honors and received her Master of Arts degree in Public Administration from Columbus State University. Chief Dunham has received numerous awards and national recognition for her work in the community and accomplishments in law enforcement.
Some of Chief Dunham’s professional affiliations consist of the Atlanta Metropol, where she served in many capacities on the Executive Board including chair for over four years. Chief Dunham serves on the Board of Directors for the Atlanta High Intensity Drug Task Force Association (HIDTA). She is a Board Member of the Fulton County Homeland Security Committee, where she chairs a subcommittee that identifies threat vulnerability in Metro Atlanta’s infrastructure. Chief Dunham was selected by the National Transportation Security Administration (TSA) to serve on the Peer Advisory Committee which acts as a liaison between TSA and the top 20 transit authorities. She is a member of the Public Safety Security Advisory Committee for the American Public Transportation Association (APTA). In addition, she is an active participant with FTA/TSA Security Roundtable Advisory Committee; as well as a member of the International Association of Chief’s of Police (IACP), National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE) and the Georgia Association of Chief’s of Police (GACP).
Chief Dunham has demonstrated her ability to reduce the incidence of crime, effectively lead officers under her command and systematically make a difference in the operation of the MARTA Police Department.
