The MARTA Board of Directors elected officers for the 2012 calendar year during its Board meeting on Monday, December 12, 2011. They include:
Chairman Frederick L. Daniels, Jr. (DeKalb), Executive Vice President of Citizens Trust Bank
Vice Chair Barbara Babbit Kaufman (Fulton), Entrepreneur
Secretary Juanita Jones Abernathy (Atlanta), Former educator, retired sales director
Treasurer Harold Buckley, Sr. (DeKalb), Owner/Broker, Precision Realty
After the Board unanimously approved the 2012 slate of officers, Chairman-elect Frederick L. Daniels, Jr. offered the following comments:
“I am humbled and honored to be selected by my fellow Board members as the next MARTA Board Chairman. We are entering a critical time period in our existence, and we are committed to moving MARTA forward. Our Board is focused on confronting the transportation challenges that lie before our primary jurisdictions and contributing towards the new demands of the region. We are confident that our decisions will mark a turning point in MARTA’s history and transportation in Atlanta.”
The Board bylaws require that officers be elected by December 31st of each year. Officers are elected for one-year terms. Additional information about the officers and the 2012 Board calendar are available upon request.
The MARTA Board is responsible for setting policy and making decisions for the Authority ranging from finance to customer service. The Board is comprised of three representatives each from the City of Atlanta and Fulton County, four representatives from DeKalb County as well as the Commissioner of the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT). The executive director of the Georgia Regional Transportation Authority (GRTA) serves as the Board’s sole non-voting member.
